93% Interviewed HKers Say to Abandon Transactions if No Preferred Payment Methods Available during Online Purchases: Survey

Every year, the Double 11 shopping festival spurs a fierce wave of competition among merchants around the world. Merchants spend months preparing to maximize revenue during this critical sales season.

According to a survey by Adyen, up to 93% of Hong Kong consumers said they would abandon a transaction if their preferred payment method was unavailable during an online purchase. This is the highest percentage in the Asia-Pacific region surveyed, way beyond the Asia-Pacific (81%) and global (78%) averages.

Hong Kong digital businesses are also concerned about payment fraud, especially during peak seasons when sales shoot up. 73% of Hong Kong digital businesses reflected that transaction fraud and chargebacks have become a huge cost to their businesses.

Adyen commissioned Censuswide to conduct a global survey of 37,378 consumers and 8,822 digital businesses, including 1,010 Hong Kong consumers and 409 Hong Kong digital businesses.
