He expressed gratitude to US President Donald Trump for the opportunity to lead the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), believing that DOGE will become a permanent part of government operations. Musk's role as a special government employee allowed him to work for the government 130 days a year. Starting from Trump's inauguration on January 20, Musk's term was set to end by the end of May.
