Fitch Ratings estimates that retail sales of passenger vehicles (PVs) in China will record a mid-single-digit decline this year owing to the gradual withdrawal of subsidies suppressing demand and accelerating structural upgrades, especially in the electric vehicle sector. In addition, while regulatory measures for "anti-involution" may help stabilize pricing starting from 2Q26, Fitch still believes automakers will face profit margin pressure from rising component costs and intense competition.
