CN SAMR Reinforces Monopoly Reviews; 129 Cases Concluded in Relevant Sectors for 2025

China's State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) introduced at the press conference on the top ten major cases of comprehensive rectification of "involution" competition held this morning (27th) that review of concentration of business operators has played an active role in addressing "involution" competition. Over the past year, SAMR reinforced monopoly review in key sectors of "involution" competition such as automotive, photovoltaic, and lithium batteries. This effectively supports companies in revitalizing idle assets through M&As, improving operational efficiency, and helping them get rid of "involution" competition through M&As and restructurings. SAMR stated that a total of 129 cases in relevant sectors were concluded last year. These cases involved various types, including promoting technological synergy, achieving complementary advantages, optimizing capacity layout, integrating regional resources, revitalizing idle capacity, and promoting transformation and upgrading.
