HK Exchange Fund Total Assets Hit HKD4,151.4B at End-2025, Surging HKD44.4B MoM

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has announced that the total assets of the Exchange Fund amounted to HKD4,151.4 billion as at December 31, 2025, HKD44.4 billion higher than that at the end of November 2025. Hong Kong dollar assets increased by HKD23.7 billion and foreign currency assets increased by HKD20.7 billion. The HKMA explained that the rise in Hong Kong dollar assets was mainly due to an increase in placements with banks. The rise in foreign currency assets was mainly due to the increase in currency swap, interest income and mark-to-market revaluation of investments, which were partly offset by a reduction in the month-end balances of unsettled purchase of securities.
