The Supreme Court of Panama ruled that the contract renewal for the Panama Canal port by CK Hutchison is unconstitutional.

Chief Executive John Lee expressed strong dissatisfaction on behalf of the Hong Kong government when speaking to the press before attending the Executive Council meeting this morning (10th).

He emphasized that the stance of the government is clear, opposing any foreign government using coercion, pressure or other unreasonable political means in international economic and trade relations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC (MoFA) also clearly stated that China will take all necessary measures to firmly safeguard the legitimate rights of Chinese enterprises, Lee added. The government will fully support and cooperate with the measures taken by China.

He believed that this incident has damaged investor confidence in the local business environment, and there will be a review of current and future investments in the area. He hoped that Panama will seriously protect the legitimate interests of enterprises.
