May Brent oil futures last leaped 4.23% to US$111.85 per barrel, while April New York oil futures mounted 3.06% to US$99.27 per barrel. As the US military moves into the next phase of operations against Iran, the US government is considering deploying thousands of troops to bolster its operation in the Middle East, Reuters quoted sources as saying. These plans include ensuring the safe passage of oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, primarily using air and naval forces, sources added.
