BABA-W Cuts Workforce by 34% Last Yr, Doubles Down on AI

As of the end of December 2025, BABA-W (09988.HK) had a total workforce of 128,197 employees, a significant decrease of approx. 66,000 employees, or 34%, from 194,320 employees from a year earlier. Following its exit from offline retail businesses such as Sun Art Retail and Intime Department Store, the Company’s headcount has dropped sharply. BABA-W’s workforce shrank by about 34% over the course of2025, as the Company sold off parts of its offline retail business and doubled down on AI. The latest figures on headcount were disclosed in the results released on Thursday (19th), which showed that the Company’s profit plummeted by 67% in 3FQ26 ended December 2025, while revenue also missed expectation.
